Elyria Catholic Will Bring Scholastic Play by Play Classic to the Coliseum in 2019

ELYRIA, OH – The Coliseum will take center stage once again. Elyria Catholic High School will bring the Scholastic Play by Play Classic to the Coliseum in January, 2019. After eight consecutive years at Baldwin Wallace University, the showcase moves to the campus of Elyria Catholic for two days of marquee boys basketball match-ups beginning Saturday, January 5th. Ten games will make up the 2019 edition and features perennial powerhouses from Northeast Ohio and beyond.

“The prospect of bringing this event to Elyria Catholic has been very intriguing over the last few months,” said Elyria Catholic Athletic Director Jack Duffy on Tuesday morning. “Watching high school basketball at the Coliseum is a unique experience, each and every time. Matching our venue with these great games will create a state tournament-like atmosphere that should prove to be memorable for players, coaches and fans alike.”

Play by Play Classics have showcased dozens of current and future NBA stars including: LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Dajuan Wagner, Eddie Griffin, Jameer Nelson, Kevin Durant, O.J. Mayo and Michael Beasley. More than 400,000 fans have attended 75 events and another 1,000,000 plus have watched games produced on ESPN, Comcast Sports South, Comcast SportsNet, CN8, and the Pennsylvania Cable Network. Showcases have been held at the Palestra, Temple, Villanova, St Joseph’s, Greensboro Coliseum (NC), Ohio State, US Bank Arena (OH), Dayton U, The Pyramid (TN), and Sovereign Bank Arena (NJ).
