Girls Varsity Track, Varsity Track · Track and Field Program Splits Opener with Valley Forge


The Elyria Catholic track and field program opened the season on Wednesday (March 29) against Valley Forge High School at Byers Field.

EC’s boys were victorious 93-42 while the girls fell to the Patriots, 83-53.

On the boys side, senior Daryl Davis won both the long jump (18’ 6.5”) and the high jump (5’ 8”) and his classmate Jared Fote won both hurdles events (17.2 / 45.3). Freshman Chris Jackson was a two-time winner in the 100 (11.9) and 200 (25.2).

Junior Gabe Hirsch won the discus (99’ 6”) and senior Sam Best had the top time in the 400 (56.1).

EC also won the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800 relays.

Sophomores Emily Dugan and Kristina Ferenzi were multiple event winners on the girls side on Wednesday. Dugan won the 100 (12.74) and 400 (1:09.60) and Ferenzi took the 200 (3.08) and long jump (13’ 8”).

Juniors Joyce Stupka (6:31) and Beth Ziegelmeyer (14:13 won the 1600 and 3200, respectively.

EC’s girls also won the 4×400 in 4:50.90.

The Panthers return to action next Wednesday (April 5) when the Rocky River Pirates come to EC for a Great Lakes Conference dual meet. Action is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
