Tuesday (Sep. 20) night was a good night for the Elyria Catholic volleyball program as the host Panthers swept Rocky River at all three levels.
Varsity set scores were 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20. The win improved EC’s record to 7-8 overall and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Conference. Tuesday marked the end of the first time through the conference schedule and Elyria Catholic and Holy Name are tied atop the GLC standings with identical 5-1 marks.
Rocky River, the lone GLC team to defeat Holy Name, is now 4-2 in conference action.
Seniors led the way on Tuesday as Lydia Wetzel (13), Stephanie Ferrer (11) and Jacqueline Lester (eight) were tops on the team in kills. Junior Meghan Allegretto finished with seven kills of her own. Senior setter Sarah Schuckman dished out 33 assists and her classmate Jasmine Hromada led the club with 31 digs and five aces.
Wetzel also had 15 digs to give her yet another double-double effort.
The Panthers will get little time to enjoy the victory as a big-time conference match at Bay is on the docket Thursday (Sep. 22) night. When the Rockets came to Elyria on August 30th in what was EC’s GLC opener, the Panthers won the match in five.
Bay will enter Thursday with a 4-2 conference record.
