Multiple Teams · Plenty of Panthers Recognized By Lorain County Basketball Coaches Association


After going 19-3 during the regular season, the Elyria Catholic girls program picked up plenty of recognition when the Lorain County awards were announced.

Seniors Josie Carandang and Riley Schill were both named first team all-county in Division II and juniors Sam Filiaggi and Nora Hopkins earned second team honors.

Sophomore Megan Scheibelhut and senior Julia Scarpelli were awarded honorable mention status.

The man who oversaw everything, head coach Eric Rothgery, was named the Division II Coach of the Year.

Senior Jake Kuchta was named the Co-County Player of the Year in Division III by the Lorain County Basketball Coaches Association. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard split the award with Columbia High School’s David Delahunty.

Kuchta’s class and backcourt mate Darin Guice joined him on the all-county first team and fellow senior Brian Duffield was a second team pick, as was sophomore Dorian Crutcher.

Senior Kevin Kelley and junior Doug Taylor earned honorable mention status.
