The Elyria Catholic girls basketball team concluded the regular season with a 49-19 win at Valley Forge High School on Wednesday (Feb. 10) night.
With the win, EC wrapped up the regular season at 19-3 overall and 11-1 in Great Lakes Conference play. Wednesday’s victory clinched the Panthers the outright conference title for the second consecutive year.
Junior Sam Filiaggi led the Panthers with 11 points on Wednesday and senior Josie Carandang chipped in 10, nine of which came on three three-pointers.
Senior Julia Scarpelli pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to go with her six points and her classmate Riley Schill stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Sophomore Megan Scheibelhut (five), junior Nora Hopkins (four), sophomore Meghan Allegretto (three) and junior Cara Provenzale (two) also got in on the scoring act.
EC, the top seed in the Elyria district, will open state tournament play at home on Saturday (Feb. 13) against Fairview High School. That game will tip-off at 1:00 p.m. and as a reminder, adult tickets are $6 and students are charged $4 at all postseason games.
Great Lakes Conference passes will not be accepted.
