Normandy High School
Elyria Catholic High School
The following recap was written by Matt Lofgren of The Morning Journal.
ELYRIA — The Elyria Catholic girls basketball team avenged its only Great Lakes Conference loss to Normandy High School on Saturday (Jan. 16) afternoon as the Panthers took care of the Invaders, 49-31.
The win was EC’s sixth straight and improved the Panthers to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the GLC.
Senior point guard Riley Schill scored 17 points in the win and her second bucket of the game made her the third 1,000-point scorer in the history of the EC girls basketball program.
As Schill celebrated with her team, Panthers coach Eric Rothgery reflected on his senior’s career and said he never doubted she would make it to this moment.
“No, not at all (surprised she has made it this far) actually,” Rothgery said. “Honestly, I probably would have thought it would have come earlier. She’s a good scorer, but she’s really developed into an unselfish player so that keeps her around that 10-12 points a game. I would have guessed she would have gotten it at some point, though.”
EC returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 20) night when Holy Name comes to The Coliseum. The Panthers beat the Green Wave by a score of 47-26 in the first meeting of the season back on December 5th.
EC scoring v. Normandy: Riley Schill – 17 // Megan Scheibelhut – 10 // Nora Hopkins – 7 // Josie Carandang – 6 // Sam Filiaggi – 4 // Meredith Ternes – 2 // Julia Scarpelli – 2 // Regan Schill – 1
