Softball Team Wins Eighth Straight GLC Game

Julia Allegretto 2017 Softball v. Rocky River

The Elyria Catholic softball team won its eighth straight Great Lakes Conference game with an 8-2 victory at Normandy on Monday (May 15) afternoon.

Monday was a continuation of an earlier game that was called due to weather with EC leading 3-0 in the bottom of the second.

EC had scored a run in the first and two more in the second before the game was suspended.

Normandy cut into the lead after the continuation with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Panthers answered with two more in the top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead.

Elyria Catholic gave itself some breathing room thanks to a three-run seventh.

Senior Sam Filiaggi had three hits including a homer. Senior Bridgette Pronesti, freshman Julia Allegretto and junior Meghan Allegretto were all 2-4 with a run scored. Meghan Allegretto doubled twice.

Junior Ashley Cascio had a hit and drove in three runs while earning the win in the circle. She had eight strikeouts yesterday afternoon.

EC will play Columbia on Thursday (May 18) in a district semifinal game at Avon Lake High School. That game will start at 4:00 p.m.
